Most of the clothing is designed to be worn at birthday parties and at concerts. Influences come from popular culture, travel, nature, magic and nostalgia.
Designed by Claire Frieling, based just outside of Chicago in Oak Park. Claire has three children who inspire her with their latest obsessions.
They also make excellent models, Archie (8), Jack (5) and Vivienne (1).
Claire is a Graphic Designer from London who has worked predominately in the Fashion and Beauty Industries designing Advertising, Catalogs and In-store Graphics. She was inspired by this environment to start ‘Rudy Ludy’ as a fun and creative sideline in 2005, originally making Appliqué women’s clothing and selling her wares at the Portobello Market in London and at music festivals. The name came from a nickname given to me by an old work friend (Thanks Matt!) and was inspired by her maiden name, Ludeman.
She met her American husband in Thailand in 2006 and moved to Chicago shortly afterwards. When pregnant with their first child they didn’t know the sex of the baby so she started designing unisex baby clothing. She wasn’t too excited by all the white and yellow ducky stuff that was out there at the time so started designing fun colorful designs that either sex would look trendy and cute in.
Claire started an Etsy shop in 2007 making handmade and personalized clothing. Due to high demand most of Rudy Ludy’s clothing is now outsourced to an external DTG printer that offers many style and color choices, opening up the creative options available and all all on this website. All the Glow Shirts are made using neon transfer vinyl and are unachievable with DTG printing so they continue to all be cut, peeled and pressed by hand. The designs that use special materials like Foil and Glitter are also made in-house by hand.
